Lancashire Best Kept Village Competition 2016

Below is the report from the BKV Competition.  The village was 6th in the small village category in 2016.

Judges Report Sheet

 VILLAGE: __Bretherton______________

 Overall tidiness of the village (i.e. litter, weeds, etc.) 

 Very good much communal effort has gone into litter clearance and hedge trimming.

 Private & commercial properties

Most properties were well kept and involved in LBKV entry. There is an obvious pride in the village

 Churches

St. John’s the Baptist really made a big effort grass cut well kept no litter

 Schools

Railings could do with a lick of paint but overall very welcoming

 Public halls etc.

Notice boards had up to date information and Kitchener needs you ( to help) for LBKV v original

 War Memorial

not involved in 2016 due to ongoing works

 Bus Shelters, litterbins, floral displays

Overall very clean and tidy

Very Good Floral displays excellent

 Playing fields, play areas

Well Maintained no litter.

 Shops

Old Corn Mill Antiques was very good. Window frames and garage door need painting

 Pubs, cafes, etc.

Very good as Cert of Merit for Blue Anchor Inn.  Beer garden was above average superb outdoor venue.  Fantastic layout and gardens.

Disused telephone box converted to a working village library

 Outstanding features

Hanging baskets of flowers well tended as were seats and benches.  Litter bins emptied prior to our visits.

 Overall a very pleasant village

Overall pride in the village shone through
